Mexico City, Mexico. February 28th 2019.— Stains are the great enemy of cleaners. According to Ecolab, 70% of laundry professionals in the lodging industry say that removing stains is their biggest challenge.
In a typical 150-room hotel, the average cost of laundry is more than $200 per day. In a year, laundry operational costs can grow to over $75,000 with approximately 25%, or roughly $18,750 dollars, spent on renovating linens.
A hotels’ reputation is built on cleanliness and small details can have a great impact on customers’ perception and brand reputation. A stain can signal some sort of pest intrusion or lack of hygiene in the facilities, resulting in huge complaints and low customer satisfaction.
In hotel linens, the most common an often difficult to treat stains are grease, oil, ink, blood, bodily fluids, food, make-up, clay, sun screen, suntan lotion, coffee, tea, wine, fruit juice, mold, iron and oxide stains. The most frequent complaints lodged by customers are dirty floors, stains on furniture, sheets, towels and bedspreads; as well as the smell of grease on bathroom walls. The expense of eliminating these issues can increase if the best product is not used or when linens have to be replaced.
"Continuity of business and the prestige of the facility depends on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene; and that includes eliminating stains. Ecolab's mission is to help its clients in the hotel business achieve the highest standards of quality. But it is not only the responsibility of the hotel staff and administration to ensure a clean room, but also of the guests to check certain points and demand a clean stay," said Adrián García, Marketing Manager for the Institutional Division of Ecolab Mexico.
In more severe cases, spots on the mattress may indicate the presence of undesirable animals such as bed bugs or some other pests, who thrive in warm, humid temperatures or other suitable conditions for their survival and proliferation.
"By removing stains effectively, a hotel can optimize its laundry operations and save money because it reduces the need to buy new linens. Our StainBlaster Program not only allows our customers to save time and money, it also improves customer satisfaction rates and protects the reputation of the hotel," added Garcia.
