Ecolab Commemorates World Energy Day With a Strong Commitment to Sustainability
● Ecolab highlights the importance of the energy transition and its role in innovation and environmental efficiency in Mexico.
● In 2024, one of their customers saved the equivalent of 56 million miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.

Mexico City February 14, 2025 - Ecolab, a global leader in water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions and services, joins the commemoration of World Energy Day, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation. In a global context where environmental challenges are becoming increasingly critical, organizations must adopt new forms of energy generation and optimize available resources, all with a focus on greater efficiency.
According to recent data from Statista, in 2023, around 58% of the energy generated in Mexico came from natural gas, while 9.41% was derived from other fossil fuels, such as oil. This situation highlights the urgency of a transformation towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
With this context, Fernando Avila, director of Ecolab Mexico's Industrial division, said: “Companies have the opportunity to lead the change towards a more sustainable future. Actions taken today will be the foundation for ensuring a healthy planet for generations to come.
Ecolab's commitment to sustainability is reflected in many innovative initiatives; for example, one of our customers was able to save the equivalent of 56 million miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle1. This progress demonstrates the importance of every step toward sustainability, especially in an environment where the preservation of natural resources has become a growing concern.
Renewable energies, such as hydroelectric, geothermal, and wind, accounted for 25% of the total energy produced in Mexico, indicating progress in the energy transition, although significant efforts are still required to move towards more sustainable energy sources. “Implementing projects that optimize the use of resources not only improves efficiency but also contributes to water savings considering that generating 1 MWh of energy requires between 1.5 and 2.5 m3 of water. Collaboration is key in this mission to generate more efficient energy with less water,” explained Fernando Ávila.
In addition to focusing on resource efficiency, Ecolab is committed to helping its customers meet their sustainability goals without affecting productivity. Water savings is one of the most effective tools for reducing energy consumption, as water treatment, pumping, and heating account for a significant fraction of energy expenditures in industrial and commercial sectors.
Adopting advanced solutions in water recirculation, reuse and reduction allows for reduced dependence on water sources and, at the same time, reduces the energy used in processes. Ecolab's approach to energy efficiency and responsible water management not only seeks to respond adequately to the demands of the current environment in our country, but also has a positive impact on the well-being of the planet and the social responsibility of the companies involved.
Ecolab reaffirms its commitment to water and energy efficiency as essential pillars to mitigate the environmental impact of industry and contribute to a future with a smaller carbon footprint, lower water consumption and greater sustainability. On this World Energy Day, the company reiterates its mission to support its customers in adopting sustainable practices that transform the way resources are used, ensuring benefits for the economy, the environment, and society.
